Around 150 guests accepted the invitation of TC Freisenbruch to the Grillo Theater Essen to announce the new sports year together. At the meanwhile traditional New Year's reception, TC Freisenbruch - moderated by board member Jochen Witter and head coach Peter Schäfer - welcomed top-class guests.
Essen's Lord Mayor Thomas Kufen was as much a guest as the members of the Bundestag Dirk Heidenblut and Aydan Özoğuz and the member of the Landtag Frank Müller. Also many other representatives from local politics and the Essen sports scene did not miss the entertaining evening with Stauder and Currywurst.
As last year, trainer Peter Schäfer led the event through three panel discussions. This year the focus was on integration through sport.
The first to speak were Lord Mayor Thomas Kufen, Member of the Bundestag and former Minister of State Aydan, Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration Özoğuz.
The two high-ranking politicians stressed how important German sports clubs are for the coexistence of cultures.
While Kufen reports from an Essen perspective, Özoğuz was able to report exciting stories from her Hamburg constituency.
Aydan Özoğuz praised the TC Freisenbruch and its co-determination concept as a leader. Kufen, who is a Rot Weiss Essen fan at the event, finds the grassroots democratic concept of TC Freisenbruch very exciting, but does not think that this can find its way into big politics.
Schäfer had the second interview with Prof. Dr. Christian Rüttgers (FOM University). The humanities scholar gave a scientific insight into the positive integration work of sports clubs.
At the end, Farat Toku reported on his experiences with integration in top football. Toku currently works as head coach for the regional league club Wattenscheid 09. His family comes from Turkey, but he was born in Germany himself and currently trains a team consisting of eleven different nations.
Toku Freisenbruch's coach Peter Schäfer spontaneously offered a test game as part of the winter preparation as part of the very entertaining conversation.
Originally, the former Bundesliga professional of FC Schalke 04, Sergio Pinto, should be a guest. But the chief scout of SpVgg Greuther Fürth travelled with his employer to the winter training camp at short notice and therefore unfortunately had to cancel. All the more pleasing that at short notice Farat Toku took over as guest and let the evening end so humorously.
After the event the Freisenbrucher team used the impressive setting to celebrate the birthday of Kuvinthan Yogarathnam.
